The 9th edition of the International Symposium on Soil Organic Matter (SOM2024) organized at UM6P

From the 26th to the 31st of May, the College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Chair of Soil Science (CSS) and the Agriculture Innovation and Technology Transfer Center (AITTC), organized the 9th edition of the International Symposium on Soil Organic Matter (SOM2024) at UM6P Campus in Benguerir.

During this event, Plenary speeches were delivered by 11 international experts, who tackled soil health and decarbonization issues across scales, from the microbiome to diversified agricultural landscapes and beyond. Plenary talks were linked to actionable soil health management, aligning with the goals of the 2024 Nairobi Declaration made at the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit, earlier this month.

Graduate students—M.Sc. and Ph.D.— represented 25% of the participants, and the symposium featured different activities supporting their professional development and science communication.
