Applications are open for the UM6P International PhD Program

The UM6P International Doctoral Program offers a mentoring, scientific support and fellowship for talented students interested in an academic career. This program aims to facilitate recruitment and promote Moroccan student success throughout their doctoral studies and serves as a leverage to help them stand out in their fields. In a cross-disciplinary environment, PhD students build up and expand interdisciplinary thinking and skills as well as experiences at the highest level in the targeted research disciplines.

The selected PhD candidates will conduct their studies in a world class laboratory belonging to one of the top universities around the world. However, the candidate must ensure a presence of at least 3 months within the UM6P campus during the first year, and 1 month per year afterwords, while being otherwise in a world-class laboratory (University in top 20 shanghai ranking or recognized world class laboratories) for the rest of the thesis. During the stay at UM6P, the selected candidate will be working in collaboration with a UM6P

Benefits:

The selected candidate will be registered in the doctoral program of the international partner institution and/or at UM6P doctoral program (UM6P CEDoc) and receive a stipend of 18 000 equivalent US dollars / academic year for a duration of 4 years including 2 fly tickets/ year to Morocco and insurance (if required). There are 5 scholarships available for the academic year 2022/2023.

Eligibility :

Our ideal candidate is intellectually curious, highly motivated, and possess excellent academic qualifications. The ideal candidate must as well undertake to pursue doctoral studies in the disciplines represented at the UM6P University

Applicants to the UM6P PhD Excellence program must possess:

• A master’s or engineering degree or an equivalent diploma
• Outstanding grades with strong references
• A research proposal consisting of approximately 2-3 pages should accompany the proposal and indicate the specification of the broad field of study, statement of the research problem and scope and objectives of the study, rationale for and the significance of the study, methodology to be followed, references, and the candidate’s research/work/study experience in that area, if any. 

Admission :

Applications will be reviewed to ensure compliance with the program criteria and alignment of the research project with the candidate’s application. Applications are evaluated on the quality and significance of the proposed project and the applicant’s intellectual and creative capacity, as evidenced by a strong record of achievement or extraordinary promise.

Only applications that meet all criteria will be forwarded to the review committee.

The review committee will rank the applications based on excellence, with particular attention to:

• The level of excellence of the academic achievements of the applicant at the time of the application. Details of your academic qualifications, potentially including degree transcripts
• A personal statement explaining your situation and funding needs
• The applicant’s aptitude for research: motivation and evidence of the personal commitment of the applicant to pursue a career in scientific research and to contribute to the future of Moroccan society
• The research project proposal

The review committee will verify that the proposed project aligns with the candidate’s background and experience, and then rank the applications based on excellence to invite the top-ranked applicants for an interview.

The UM6P CEDoc communicates the decision of the admissions committee to the applicants in writing.

For a complete application, we require candidates to submit:

• A CV of 2 pages maximum
• Academic records
• A motivation letter indicating relevant extracurricular activities if any
• A personal statement explaining your situation and funding needs
• Research publications or patents, if applicable
• The research project proposal (2 – 3 pages) 
• 3 supporting references & recommendation letters from your previous tutors or from your prospective PhD supervisor

Program start:

The UM6P CEDoc has one Intake per academic year. The next deadline for application submission is November 30, 2022. Please carefully review our eligibility criteria and application requirements before submission.
