UM6P joins a consortium of African and European universities to develop agri-entrepreneurship and community engagement

 

 

 

In order to promote agri-entrepreneurship and stimulate community engagement, UM6P has recently joined a consortium of African and European universities around the AgriEngage project.

 

AgriEngage is a 3-year project that aims to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to deliver training programmes in agri-entrepreneurship and community engagement in East, West and North Africa. These programmes are in line with the changing needs of the labour market and capable of stimulating the African agricultural transformation. The specific objectives of the project are:

 

- To develop updated training programmes on agri-entrepreneurship and community engagement in higher education institutions ;

- To improve the teaching skills of university staff;

- To develop the skills of undergraduate and graduate students in agri-entrepreneurship, agribusiness services development and community engagement;

- To strengthen the collaborations between higher education institutions and the industry.

 

The activities proposed under the AgriEngage project include an assessment of the state of entrepreneurship and community engagement training in African universities; the development of "training of trainers" modules for the staff of higher education institutions; the involvement of industrial enterprises and community partners in agribusiness services development and community engagement activities; the development of agribusiness incubators and the organization of entrepreneurship and community engagement challenges, farm attachments and agribusiness clinics.

 

The project’s kick-off meeting was held on 22-23 February 2021 with representatives of the 6 partner countries. The project coordinator, Professor Patience Mshenga, presented the AgriEngage project and the main responsibilities of each partner. Dr. Latifa Daadaoui, coordinator of the NEO Office in Morocco, provided practical recommendations regarding the implementation of the project and the use of grants in accordance with the rules of the Erasmus+ programme.

 

The project consortium consists of 11 institutions from 6 African and European countries:

 

- Benin: The University of Abomey Calavi and the National University of Agriculture

- Denmark: The University of Copenhagen

- Italy: The University of Pavia

- Kenya: Egerton University and Pwani University

- Morocco: Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute (IAV)

- Uganda: Gulu University, Uganda Martyrs University and The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM)

 

At Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, the AgriEngage project is led by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab (I&E Lab) and the School of Agriculture, Fertilization and Environmental Sciences (ESAFE).
