ASARI, AL MOTMIR & INRA organized a workshop on drought resilience in Morocco

In the framework of the ongoing MADIS Project “Management of Disaster Risk and Societal Resilience” undertaken by researchers at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P), Morocco and Cranfield University, United Kingdom, ASARI has organized in collaboration with AL MOTMIR and INRA a workshop on February 28th- March 2nd on drought resilience in Morocco.

In the first part of the WS farmers from Settat and El Jadida regions were invited, while in the second part that was organized in Rabat in collaboration with INRA, policy makers from the ministries of Energy (AMEE), Water (DRPE, ONEE) and Agriculture (DIAEA) as well as representatives from DSS were invited.

The discussion with both farmers and policy makers focused mainly on the current drought management practices and associated challenges. The MADIS project has four main objectives:

• Relationship between drought hazard, vulnerability, and resilience
• Role of institutional, infrastructural, and societal dimensions to improve drought resilience
• Linkage between droughts indicators and their impacts
• Drought management using socio-technical tools for decision making.
