EMARA Scientific Chaire Conference - “ Sites and Monuments of the World Heritage of UNESCO: Challenges and opportunities”

 

On April 8, 2024, the EMARA Scientific Chaire organized a conference under the theme “ Sites and Monuments of the World Heritage of UNESCO: Challenges and opportunities” animated by Mr Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of World Heritage at UNESCO, at the Fatima al-Fihriya Hall at the Campus of UM6P in Benguerir. This conference covered various aspects of World Heritage, including its meaning and importance, as well as relevant examples of safeguarding.

The introduction contextualized the topic by highlighting the different dimensions of World Heritage, as defined by the 1972 Convention, including both tangible and natural heritage.

Mr. Eloundou Assomo explained the reasons why it is crucial to preserve this heritage, highlighting the values ​​it conveys for humanity.

The conference also explored examples of World Heritage across the world, with particular attention paid to Moroccan World Heritage. Moroccan sites of global significance were examined in detail, highlighting their unique characteristics.
